Analyses by Fitch (1967) of the published observational data on the ? Scuti star CC Andromedae and the ? Canis Majoris star ? Scorpii led to the suggestion that the often observed presence of multiple periodicities in these kinds of stars should be attributed to the influence on the normal pulsation mode of structural changes produced in the outer layers of the pulsating primary by tidal perturbations due to a faint companion. This suggestion is further supported by Preston’s (1966) announcement at the 3rd Variable Star Colloquium that the ? Scuti star ? Delphini is a double-line spectroscopic binary.
