Using a nitrogen gas target and solid state detectors, the reaction N14(p, p?) has been investigated at closely spaced proton energies from 9.15 to 10.45 MeV at angles of 60°, 90° and 120°. A previously reported N14 state, of particular astrophysical interest, at 7.60 MeV excitation, was not observed. This is a direct contradiction, as the present work covers the same energy and angle as the earlier work. However, an alternative interpretation of the earlier work is advanced. States observed in the present experiment are the ground state, 2.31, 3.95, 4.91, 5.10, 5.69, 5.83, 6.21, 6.44, 7.03, 7.97 and 8.06 MeV states. No other N14 states were observed below 8.06 MeV excitation, and an upper limit to the cross section for any unobserved states near the C13 + p threshold is 2?b/sr.
